Meaning & History

Brae is a settlement on the island of Mainland in Shetland Scotland.
I cannot find when Brae was founded
Brae comes from the Shetland dialect Brae , which may come from Old Norse breiðr "broad".
Brae is also the Lowland Scots word for the "slope of a hill".
