Meaning & History

Name of a city in Illinois founded in 1833. The name comes from French Chécagou, itself a rendering of the Miami-Illinois (Algonquian) word šikaakwa meaning "wild leek, Allium tricoccum", a species of wild onion that originally was abundant in this place.
