Combination of the Swedish name Eskil and Swedish tun (from Old Norse tún) meaning "enclosure, fence, homestead, courtyard, plot". The town was originally called just Tuna but was renamed Eskilstuna after Saint Eskil who was stoned to death in 1080. Eskilstuna is located in Södermanland.
