From an Andalusian Arabic rendition of the Roman name Mariana.
This is (part of) the name of settlements in Andalusia, a formerly independent municipality in the province of Granada and two municipalities in the province of Sevilla (Mairena del Alcor and Mairena del Aljarafe), as well as a hermitage enshrining Our Lady of Mairena in Puebla del Príncipe, located near the Andalusian border in the province of Ciudad Real in Castilla-La Mancha.
