Meaning & History

This is the shorter version of the name Nan'yō Guntō. It's an abbreviation. It in English means the "South Seas" and "Micronesia." It was used lots of times by Okinawans during the Japanese administration era. Okinawans did work in Micronesia such as plantation work. They also did work in the phosphate mine in Angaur, Palau. Japan controlled Chuuk which is part of what is now the Federated States of Micronesia from WWI to WWII. Japanese started families with Chamorros in Guam.
