Of uncertain origin, possibly from Chinese 突厥 (Tūjué) meaning "Turk, Turkish", from 大理國 (Dàlǐguó) referring to the ancient Dali Kingdom that existed in what is now Yunnan province, or from 大月支 (dàyuèzhī), the Chinese name for the Tocharians, a medieval Indo-European people. This is the Burmese name for China.
