Meaning & History
Short form of Purépecha Yuririapundaro meaning "lake of blood" or "place of the bloody lake". This is the name of a lake, town and municipality in central Mexico, located in the 'Bajío', or lowlands, of Guanajuato (state). An Augustinian monastery was built in the town of Yuriria on the southern shore of Lake Yuriria, beginning in 1566.
