[Opinions] Re: Temperance
I think the virtue of temperence is interesting and valuable, but I think it gets a bad rap for being tied to the Temperence movement, which was more about abstinence from alcohol rather than moderation. I would not use Prudence, Patience, or Temperence as names although I wouldn't mind using a name with those meanings. Temperence according to Webster's:
- 1. Moderation; particularly, habitual moderation in regard to the indulgence of the natural appetites and passions; restrained or moderate indulgence;... temperance in eating and drinking is opposed to gluttony and drunkenness, and in other indulgences, to excess.- 2. Patience; calmness; sedateness; moderation of passion.
