Meaning & History

From Japanese 千 (chi) meaning "thousand", 代 (yo) meaning "generation" and 田 (ta) meaning "field, rice paddy". This is the name of a special ward of Tokyo (sometimes referred to as Chiyoda City), derived from an alternate name of Edo Castle. It is also the name of another city in Gunma Prefecture.
