Meaning & History
An archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean on the Patagonian Shelf and an overseas territory claimed by Argentina and administered by the United Kingdom (known in English as the Falkland Islands). It is derived from French Îles Malouines, Malouines being a derivation of Malouin, the demonym for Saint-Malo.
