Meaning & History

This is the name of a district and town in Shiribeshi Subprefecture in south-western Hokkaidō, located in northern Japan.

The kanji used are 余 (yo, ama.ru, ama.ri, ama.su, anma.ri) meaning "too much, myself, surplus, other, remainder" and 市 (shi, ichi) meaning "city, market, town."

Yoichi is also used as a masculine given name (see Yoichi on the given name section) and surname (see Yoichi on the surname section).
