Meaning & History

The name of a prominent city in ancient America, according to the Book of Mormon, named after a man who was an ancestor of the prophet Ammon and a descendant of Mulek. Some Hebrew roots have been suggested such as the verb זָרַע (zará') meaning "to scatter seed, to sow" and the noun חֶמְלָה (khemlah) "compassion, mercy".
