Meaning & History
A fictional city-state from Eiichiro Oda’s “One Piece.”The Holy Land Mary Geoise is located in the center of the world atop the Red Line mountain range. It is the capital of the World Government where only the highest nobles and elites may live. The name has no definite meaning, but Geoise is sourced from the French word bourgeois—“of or characteristic of the middle class, typically with reference to its perceived materialistic values or conventional attitudes.”Marījoa has been Anglicized into several forms. In one translation, it was scrapped completely and localized to Eden Rock.
