[Games] Saphirdufeu's Royal Congrats - Round 6
Hey! I'm sorry it's been so long since the last round, life suddenly became a bit hectic and I haven't had any time to get the next round up. Things should be back on track from now!
Round 1: http://www.behindthename.com/bb/game/4944377
Round 2: http://www.behindthename.com/bb/game/4944585
Round 3: http://www.behindthename.com/bb/game/4945598
Round 4: http://www.behindthename.com/bb/game/4945878
Round 5: http://www.behindthename.com/bb/game/4946200
We’re over halfway there! 5 years have passed, and the year is 1198 - age everyone up.
Dice: http://www.brockjones.com/dieroller/dice.htm
Relationships
First, roll d4 for any relationships - if you roll a 1, the couple is no longer together, due to death or divorce.
Roll d10 for everyone over the age of 55, or under the age of 10 - a roll of 8-10 means that that person has unfortunately passed away.
Now, roll d10 for everyone over the age of 14 who is single.
If they are aged 15 to 18, a roll from 7-10 is an engagement (but not one which can produce children.)
If they are aged 19 to 25, a roll from 5-6 is an engagement, and 7-10 is a marriage.
If they are aged 26+, a roll from 3-5 is an engagement, and 6-10 is a marriage.
Engagements may become marriages in the next round.
Naturally, a member of the royal family cannot marry a commoner - and so, roll d6 for the title of the noble any royals marry:
1: Baron/Baroness
2: Viscount/Viscountess
3: Count/Countess
4: Duke/Duchess
5: Prince/Princess (of another country)
6: King/Queen (of another country)
Women who marry will take the title of their spouse - men will take the title of their spouse if it is higher than theirs.
Children
Next up, children! Any children born this round should be under 5 years old, and will take the title of their parents (unless their parents are King & Queen, in which case they are Prince/Princess). Roll d20.
For a potential mother aged 18-23: 1-10 is no children, 11-15 is 1 child, 16-20 is 2 children
For a potential mother aged 24-34: 1-5 is no children, 6-8 is 1 child, 9-14 is 2 children, 15-20 is 3 children
For a potential mother aged 35-45: 1-10 is no children, 11-15 is 1 child, 16-20 is 2 children
Events (optional)
Roll d10:
1-6: no event
7-8: Rival Claim
Arthur, the 11-year-old Duke of Brittany, has lain claim to the throne of England, backed by King Philip II of France.
9-10: House of Hohenstaufen
Holy Roman Emperor Henry VI, also King of Germany, Italy, and Sicily, died last year. He left Sicily to his 4-year-old son, Frederick, who now needs a Queen. If you have a daughter under the age of 8, she could become engaged to Frederick and take the role of Queen of Sicily.

They teased, but the Dowager Queen knew her elder boys, military Christopher, quiet and studious Nicholas, and rebellious Felix, genuinely were jealous that their unobtrusive baby brother Oliver had become engaged before them. She was only a Countess, but she was pretty and clever and Oliver seemed to like her, so the Dowager was content. Will and Meg had both followed through on their engagements and seemed happy enough - Kitty had given Will two children already, which was good indeed. They were both girls, but still, there was time. Perhaps she'd bear as many children as the Dowager herself; if so, the old Queen reflected bitterly, hopefully less of them would meet an early grave.

This past winter was especially hard on everyone. The winds blew colder and the illnesses spread faster and hit harder. King Simon passed away as did Katherine's son Joachim and Margaret's husband, Theobald. Margaret nearly passed with her husband, but Maria nursed her back to health.
Katherine's childbearing days are preparing to wind down. A little older now than she was when she had Rosamund, Katherine has found giving birth to her last two children harder than her first six. Elysande and Geoffrey both almost didn't make it into this world, and Elysande almost took her mother with her.
When Valentine continued to exist in his depressed state, mourning his dead wife, Alice begged him to have their marriage annulled. The poor man didn't care much about anything and agreed because he didn't think it fair to Alice that she had to live with him.
The moment her annulment became official, Alice started prowling on The men who would gather at her father's house, noting which she liked and which she didn't. During state dinners, the thirty-one year old woman would lurk behind doors with a maidservant taking notes.

The people had reached a consensus, or something approaching it at any rate, by virtue of countless tavern conversations, barracks gossip, and idle chatter between washerwomen: King Henry, whatever else he may have been, was bloody decent at the whole kinging business. Sure, he very seldom threw balls, rather forgot to keep his throne room well-decorated, and talking to him still gave you the feeling that you were trying to dance a rondel on quicksand, but he was really pretty good at the kinging thing. The kingdom enjoyed a period of, if not quite prosperity, then at least stability. Hal kept the ship sailing with a steady hand on the rudder, despite whatever winds might blow. He did pass a law banning jesters and fools from performing pantomime, but that was mostly accepted with a shrug as the entertainers simply turned added words to their routines, and as far as absolute monarchs went, the people generally considered this an acceptable character quirk.
Slightly more concerning was the fact that Hal and Louise still hadn't produced an heir to the throne. There was much speculation in the rowdier, drunker parts of town about this. Some said it was a punishment for their sins. Others insisted a heir had been born, albeit horribly disfigured and therefore locked in a room somewhere in the castle, where he was kept like a wild animal. Some even went so far as to say they had traded their fertility off to faeries, in return for a peaceful reign, though most people drew the line at suggesting that Hal may have had some royal bastards hidden elsewhere; it was hard enough to imagine one woman successfully enduring him, they opined over their half-emptied flagons.

King Simon has strong support from his people and army to ward off this foreign upstart. Simon and Queen Elspeth had three more children over the past five years, two more sons (thankfully, should anything happen to Prince Miles) named Adam and Amaury, and a second daughter, Gratia (her second name Agnes is another nod to Simon’s deceased mother Matilda).

King Edmund the Sorrowful - that's what his countrymen have taken to calling him. Tragedy continues to nip at the heels of the House of Northumbria, so much so that Edmund even altered the family crest. The lion emblazoned on the crest now sheds a single tear on its cheek.
There had been complications with the birth of the twin princesses. Little Mary and Amelia, though very tiny, had been healthy, but the difficulty had been on Queen Sapphira's side. An infection took her not long after their daughters turned six months old. Edmund was inconsolable. Sapphira had been the light of his life, and now he had to face ruling the kingdom without her steadiness and advice. Rumors swirled of the king's short reign being cursed, though no one knew what for. And the rumors only grew worse in the past year, when Margaret, Queen Mother, died suddenly as well. Her son and daughters, however, were not surprised at their mother's death. After King Ambrose had been lost in the Crusades, she had never been the same. Though she outlived her husband, her heart had withered long ago.

Rival Claim
They say that you don't appreciate what you have until it is gone. They say being emotional about things is a peacetime luxury - that it is too painful in war. But emotions during wartime are nigh unavoidable.
No one was expecting war would follow when King Philip I and Queen Edith left Wessex & Mercia in Prince Geoffrey's capable hands to take their beloved Maud to France where she would marry the prince. After much cajoling, Princess Eleanor was brought down as well, though she did not deign to speak to the sister she had all but disowned. Prince Percival and Princess Maria were brought, too, as an investigation of prospects for the latter and a last peek at Court life for the former before he would embark for the priory. And there were numerous guests of note at the royal wedding, including Renard, Grand Duke of Luxembourg, recently widowed for a second time and with no children. (Prince David was left behind with his oldest brother.)
The festivities carried on without a hitch, and Maud was welcomed in France as Princess Mathilde upon her marriage.

Three engagements followed by two weddings, one birth and sadly one death, that sums up the last five years in the Kingdom of Courteney. Five years ago the whole Kingdom was celebrating the birth of the heir Prince Leopold, only to mourn his premature death several months later after the little Prince just stopped breathing in his sleep. Both Frederick and Cecily were shatterd upon the sudden death of their son, what's more worrying is that they were unable to conceive another baby ever since, Frederick's young brother Felix therefore is currently the only heir to the throne.
Following the tragedy was a series of happy events. First the Dowager Queen Maude got engaged to French Baron Julian de Evelyn, only to marry him months later at his large estate in Provance where the couple resides. Two years later Frederick's sister Victoria got engaged to Duke Renard Veteripont, unlike many others in the family this was not an arranged marriage and Frederick allowed his sister to marry for love.

It would seem tragedy and joy are intrinsically intertwined. Just as Queen Mary was giving birth to her second child, she found out that her 8-year-old daughter, Princess Sigrid, was accidentally hit on the head with a ball by a playmate. The doctors were unable to stop the haemorrhage, and Sigrid died moments after the birth of her son, Quentin. The grieving couple decided to honour their late daughter by giving their newborn the middle name Lionel - a subtle nod to Sigrid's middle name, Leonia.
